Alberta police and family seek new leads in 1976 teen murder
The Alberta RCMP Historical Homicide Unit and the Goudreau family have renewed a public appeal for information about the 1976 killing of 17-year-old Marie Julie Goudreau.
On August 2, 1976, 17-year-old Marie Julie Goudreau disappeared while driving home to Beaumont, Alberta, after a night out in Edmonton. Her blue Plymouth Cricket was discovered later that night parked with the engine running, and her body was found two days afterward in a watery ditch near Devon, having been strangled. Despite more than 600 tips over the decades, the Alberta RCMP has never identified a suspect.
To mark the 50th anniversary, the RCMP Historical Homicide Unit and Marie’s sister Monique Goudreau issued a fresh plea for information, stressing that time is running out for potential witnesses or the killer. Monique emphasized the need for any clue, however small, to finally bring closure to a family that has lost several members without ever learning the truth. Tips can be directed to the K Division Historical Homicide Unit, local police detachments, or Crime Stoppers.
