Algeria and coach Vladimir Petkovic end partnership by mutual consent

The Algerian Football Federation said on Monday that it and head coach Vladimir Petkovic have mutually agreed to part ways, ending his 29-month tenure with immediate effect. The statement offered no reason for the separation but praised Petkovic and his staff for their dedication and professionalism. The 62-year-old Swiss, who had just signed a contract extension running to July 2028, had guided Algeria back to the World Cup for the first time in over a decade, advancing as one of the best third-placed teams before a 2-0 loss to Switzerland in the round of 32.

Prior to taking the Algerian job, Petkovic coached Switzerland, Young Boys Bern and Lazio among others. No successor has been announced, and the federation wished the departing staff success in future endeavors.
