Alibaba Chair Joseph Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai Announce Divorce After Three Decades

Alibaba chairman Joseph Tsai and his wife Clara Wu Tsai have filed for divorce after roughly 30 years of marriage, while confirming that their business roles will remain unchanged.

Joseph Tsai, chairman of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd and owner of the Brooklyn Nets, and his spouse Clara Wu Tsai have mutually decided to end their marriage after about three decades, according to a statement released by their representatives. The announcement emphasizes that the split will not disrupt the management of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, the parent company of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets and the WNBA’s New York Liberty, where the Tsais hold an 85% ownership stake.

Joseph Tsai will retain his role as chairman of BSE Global, while Clara Wu Tsai will continue as vice-chair, and both will stay on as governors of the Liberty. Their positions at Alibaba also remain unchanged, and they do not intend to sell any of their combined 1.9% stake in the company. The couple indicated plans to eventually bring their children into the family businesses. The statement highlighted that the divorce is amicable and founded on mutual respect, ensuring continuity for shareholders and employees.
