Amazon faces class-action suit over Orgain protein powder contaminated with heavy metals

A proposed class action brought before a federal court in the Western District of Washington alleges that Amazon sold Orgain Organic Plant-Based Protein Powder containing dangerous amounts of arsenic, cadmium and lead, despite advertising the supplements as “cleaner” and “high-quality.” The filing asserts that Amazon either knew or should have known about the contamination and violated state consumer-protection statutes.

Independent testing commissioned by plaintiff law firm Hagens Berman is said to have verified the heavy-metal content. The complaint cites a Florida resident, Dawn Cada, who purchased roughly 30-dollar containers for her household, including a child with special needs, and claims other shoppers were misled by marketing language such as “Non-GMO” and “Feel Good Energy.” The suit aims to obtain class-action certification and damages for all affected buyers. A parallel case targets Costco, also accused of misleading consumers about the safety of the same Orgain products, which continue to be sold at major retailers like Target and Walmart.
