Americans Prefer Human Financial Advisors Over AI Tools for Major Decisions

A Gallup-Edward Jones poll shows most U.S. adults trust professional advisors more than AI when making important financial choices.

Gallup, in partnership with Edward Jones, surveyed U.S. adults about where they seek financial guidance. While three-quarters have used at least one source, 73% performed their own internet searches, 35% asked family, 32% consulted professional advisors, 26% relied on news or social media, and 23% spoke with friends. AI tools were used by 18% of respondents.

Trust in advisors remains high, with 79% having at least some confidence and a quarter feeling great confidence, whereas less than three-in-ten trust AI and only 3% have great confidence in it. David Chubak explained that AI assists with specific, tactical questions but does not replace the advisor’s role in deeper financial planning. He noted that AI can help identify when professional advice is needed and focus the advisor’s efforts on high-impact opportunities.

Why it matters

Understanding trust gaps helps firms shape how they integrate AI into financial advice services.
