Amnesty International apologizes to J.K. Rowling's women’s crisis centre after labeling it anti-rights

Amnesty International UK mistakenly posted a briefing that listed a number of organisations, including the women-only rape-crisis centre Beira’s Place, as “anti-rights”. The report was taken down within 48 hours after senior management were alerted. In a subsequent statement, Amnesty expressed regret, accepted full responsibility, and apologized directly to Beira’s Place and similar groups.

The charity noted that the apology does not erase the reputational harm suffered by its staff and service users. Amnesty also removed an earlier related briefing and announced an independent external review to learn from the incident. The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to defending the rights of all marginalised groups, including women, girls, and trans people.
