Anthropic Announces Creation of In-House Chip Team for Claude AI

Anthropic revealed that it is forming an internal team to create custom AI chips specifically for its Claude system, marking the company's first public acknowledgment of such a move. The recruitment drive seeks engineers skilled across semiconductor design and verification, offering compensation ranging from $320,000 to $485,000 and emphasizing a need for hands-on silicon delivery experience. The firm plans to co-design hardware and models, allowing Claude to operate faster and more efficiently at the scale demanded by customers.

While retaining core reliance on processors from AWS, Google, Nvidia and AMD, Anthropic will adopt a multi-chip approach. Prior reporting indicated the company was exploring chip design possibilities and had engaged Samsung Electronics as a potential fab partner. This follows OpenAI's recent launch of its own purpose-built chip, Jalapeño, developed with Broadcom.
