Anthropic expands Claude voice mode to powerful models and new languages

In July, Anthropic broadened the capabilities of Claude's voice mode, which originally required the lightweight Haiku model to keep response times low. The enhancement enables the feature to run on the higher-performing Sonnet and Opus models, allowing richer interactions and the ability to reference data from linked apps like Gmail, Google Calendar, and Slack. The voice interface is accessible via mobile (Android and iOS), desktop, and web platforms, with the company recommending phone use for best results.

Users can switch models through a picker, select from several English voice styles, and set speech cadence to slow, normal, or fast. While the feature now supports 14 languages and various dialects, free accounts are restricted to a single connection and cannot access Opus without a paid subscription, and all voice sessions count toward usage limits.
