Argentinian midfielder Matías Pourrain detained by ICE while traveling within Florida

Club de Lyon FC reported that its Argentine midfielder Matías Pourrain, 34, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at Fort Lauderdale Airport while preparing to fly to Los Angeles. The team clarified that Pourrain was traveling between U.S. cities, not attempting to enter or exit the country, and highlighted his clean criminal history. He has resided in the United States for seven years and currently has a pending asylum application, a Florida state ID, and a work permit.

His brother Juan told Argentine media that all of Pourrain's paperwork was in order, though he was waiting for a scheduled appointment. The club’s statement called for public support as the player’s attorney seeks his release and protection of his rights. Prior to moving to the U.S., Pourrain played for clubs including Real Pilar, San Martín de Burzaco and Mercedes in Buenos Aires.
