Arsenal close in on €90m Bruno Guimaraes move from Newcastle
Arsenal have reached a provisional agreement with Newcastle United to sign Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes for around €90 million.
Arsenal and Newcastle United have agreed in principle on a transfer fee of roughly €90 million for Brazil international Bruno Guimaraes, according to French source L'Equipe. The deal follows two rejected bids of €70 million and €80 million, and the player is said to have already signed personal terms on a contract lasting until 2031. Guimaraes, a key figure for Newcastle since his 2022 arrival from Lyon, expressed a desire to move in order to play in the Champions League after Newcastle missed out.
While the core framework is set, the parties still need to sort out bonuses, agent fees and other contractual specifics. The transfer could also trigger a sell-on payment to Lyon, which retained a 20 percent share of any future profit, potentially earning the French club more than €8 million.
Why it matters
The deal reshapes Arsenal’s squad and finances while providing Newcastle a sizable windfall.
