Astros acquire Gold Glove outfielder Daulton Varsho from Toronto for pitcher Spencer Arrighetti

In a roster shuffle, the Houston Astros obtained center fielder Daulton Varsho from the Toronto Blue Jays, sending right-handed pitcher Spencer Arrighetti to the Canadian club. Varsho, who earned a Gold Glove in 2024, has hit.243 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs in 99 games this year, and previously recorded 20 homers for Toronto last season. The outfielder’s addition bolsters an Astros defense that recently secured a three-game sweep of the Texas Rangers, propelling the team to a 2½-game lead in the AL West.

Arrighetti, a 26-year-old Texas native, is on the 15-day injured list due to nerve irritation in his right foot and had a 7-5 record with a 4.60 ERA in 17 starts. He had appeared in 53 games for Houston since joining the club in 2024. The trade positions both clubs for the stretch run of the season.
