Athletes Unlimited suspends its winter basketball league amid growing competition

Athletes Unlimited confirmed on Friday that its winter basketball competition will be temporarily suspended. In a statement, the organization highlighted its pride in reshaping professional women's basketball through an athlete-centered, profit-sharing model. With fresh investment and new leagues like Unrivaled and Project B entering the market, the company said it needs time to evaluate how it can deliver the greatest lasting impact.

The basketball league, which started in 2022, operated alongside the long-standing WNBA and featured many current and former WNBA players as a domestic alternative to overseas play. Games were staged in Las Vegas, Dallas and Nashville between January and March. While basketball is paused, the softball league remains active and volleyball has also been suspended as of Friday.
