Atlético Mineiro and Juventude set to clash in Copa do Brasil round of 16

Atlético Mineiro will host Juventude on Saturday in the first leg of their Copa do Brasil round-of-16 tie, with the return match scheduled for Tuesday in Caxias do Sul.

Saturday night at Arena MRV will see Atlético Mineiro take on Juventude in the opening leg of their Copa do Brasil round-of-16 encounter, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Brasília time. The match will be officiated by Fernando Antônio Mendes de Salles Nascimento Filho and broadcast live on Prime Video. Atlético earned their place by dispatching Ceará on penalties and have recently gathered seven points from nine league matches; coach Eduardo Domínguez will be without defender Cissé, who was sent off in the previous game, while Dudu replaces Preciado in the starting lineup.

Juventude, who have advanced past Guaporé, Tuna Luso, Águia de Marabá and São Paulo, sit second in Série B with 35 points, but will miss their regular centre-back duo as Rodrigo Sam serves a suspension and Messias recovers from injury. The second leg is slated for Tuesday in Caxias do Sul.

Why it matters

The fixture determines which club advances in Brazil's premier knockout cup, affecting both teams' chances for silverware and future revenue.
