Australia skips warm-up games, opts for condition-focused camp ahead of 2027 five-Test India tour

Australia’s head coach Andrew McDonald announced that the team will enter the 2027 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India without playing any warm-up fixtures, opting for a prolonged training camp designed to simulate Indian playing conditions. The series, expanded to five Tests for the first time in 57 years, runs from 21 January to 3 March and follows a four-Test home series against New Zealand. McDonald indicated that the final touring squad could differ from the one that finishes the New Zealand series, with selections tailored to the demands of Indian pitches.
He stressed the importance of securing a base that mirrors the climate, pitch behaviour and overall environment expected for the opening Test. Past preparations have included camps in the United Arab Emirates and in Bangalore, and a similar approach is under review for the upcoming tour.
