Australian Hiker Found Dead After Disappearing on Wyoming Trail Near Yellowstone
Rescuers recovered the body of 28-year-old Australian hiker William Standish in Wyoming’s Teton range after he went missing near Yellowstone National Park.
William Standish, a 28-year-old hiker from Australia, vanished while traversing a remote segment of the Continental Divide Trail that links Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks. After his family received a satellite check-in without coordinates on July 23, they alerted park authorities. Teton County Search and Rescue deployed a helicopter to his last known location near the Wigwams, spotting his orange backpack before locating his body below the ridge south of North Wigwam Peak.
Investigators believe he may have slipped from a steep, high-altitude ridgeline that borders Grand Teton National Park and the Jedediah Smith Wilderness. The Teton County Coroner’s office confirmed the recovery and said the manner of death remains under review. TCSAR expressed condolences and thanked federal partners for their assistance.
