Australian Isaac Beacroft sets U20 5km race walk world record in Oregon

At Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, Isaac Beacroft captured the U20 5km race walk title and set a new world record of 18:40.37, improving the former best by over seven seconds. The 19-year-old from Blacktown had already secured a Commonwealth Games gold in the 10km walk in Glasgow, making him the first athlete to hold both junior world and Commonwealth titles simultaneously. He edged out silver-medallist Huajia Pu of China, who posted 18:43.70, and Italy’s Nicolo' Vidal, who finished in 18:56.19.

Beacroft noted the difficulty of traveling directly from Scotland to the United States but praised the support of his team. In a separate sprint event, Australians Thewbelle Philp, Zara Hagan, Grace Crowe and Emilia Reed won their women's 4x100m relay heat.
