Australian regulator files Federal Court suit against Optus over 2025 outage
The Australian Communications and Media Authority has sued Optus in Federal Court, alleging over 1,000 breaches linked to the 2025 network failure that prevented emergency calls.
The regulator lodged legal proceedings against Optus, accusing the carrier of violating two statutory duties more than a thousand times during last year's extensive outage. The complaint centers on Optus's failure to provide reliable access to the Triple Zero emergency service and to route those calls correctly. Each alleged breach could attract a maximum fine of $250,000.
