Austria experienced its second straight day of record-breaking heat on August 5, when Bad Deutsch-Altenburg recorded a temperature of 41.2 °C, according to one outlet weather agency. This topped the 41 °C reading recorded in Vienna on August 4, setting a new all-time high for the nation. The heatwave coincides with a severe drought that has left many monitoring sites with rainfall deficits as high as 90 %, contributing to the country's fourth-warmest July on record.

Local businesses felt the impact, with a 20-year-old ice-cream seller in Vienna noting sluggish sales during the scorching midday hours, though evening customers increased once the sun set, aided by a fan. Climate specialists say the prolonged high temperatures are a symptom of intensified European droughts driven by climate change. The weather agency, GeoSphere Austria, highlighted that several regional temperature records have already been surpassed during this spell.
