Authorities launch homicide probe into death of 3-year-old at California reservoir

A three-year-old girl from Modesto, identified as Lailah Rosillo, died after an incident at Don Pedro Reservoir in Tuolumne County. The sheriff’s office received a 911 call on July 18 reporting a missing child who may have drowned in Fleming Meadows Lagoon, and responders found her with bystanders performing CPR. Despite rapid medical efforts, she was pronounced dead before transport to a higher-level facility.

Sheriff David Vasquez told the county board that the death is being treated as a homicide and that investigators are still collecting information from witnesses and surrounding parties. The department has asked anyone with images of the child on a raft or boat, or of the large raft she may have been on, to come forward. A GoFundMe page described the family’s loss, noting she leaves behind an older brother, an older sister and a baby brother.
