Autodesk Flow Studio launches 3D Editor + Canvas for AI-driven filmmaking
Autodesk Flow Studio introduced a new suite called 3D Editor + Canvas that merges 2D AI image generation with 3D editing tools for directors.
Autodesk Flow Studio, a prominent AI studio in Hollywood, announced a new product bundle named 3D Editor + Canvas, designed to give filmmakers finer control over AI-generated shots. The offering combines a Canvas module that leverages a range of AI models with a 3D editor that brings post-production-grade manipulation, akin to tools such as Unreal Engine, into the workflow of AI creators. In a live demo, co-founder Nikola Todorovic showed how an AI-generated character could be inserted into a pre-existing scene and repositioned, or how a virtual environment could be constructed around a character, a technique he referred to as “performance transfer.”
The system seeks to resolve the difficulty of aligning camera angles, depth and detail that currently hampers AI-driven 3D storytelling. Autodesk plans to sell the suite to enterprise studios as well as a lower-cost tier for social-media creators. The move follows increasing adoption of generative AI by major studios, including Netflix’s use of the technology on dozens of projects and its collaboration with Autodesk Flow Studio on the 2025 film The Electric State.
Why it matters
It gives filmmakers a practical way to create and edit 3D AI scenes, potentially lowering production costs and expanding creative possibilities.
