Award-winning attorney and ex-college star faces multiple felony stalking charges

Former basketball player and lawyer Cody McDavis was indicted on six felonies and three misdemeanors for allegedly stalking and assaulting his girlfriend over a year.

Cody McDavis, a prominent Los Angeles lawyer and former University of Northern Colorado basketball player, was arrested on July 20 on six felony and three misdemeanor counts alleging a year-long campaign of intimidation and physical abuse against his girlfriend. Despite his public record—including a White House Champion of Change award for campaigning against campus sexual violence and one outlet's profile on his push for NCAA bans on violent athletes—prosecutors claim he repeatedly stalked, threatened and beat his partner between July 2025 and June 2026, and attempted to prevent her from filing charges.

The indictment includes three felonies for inflicting corporal injury, two for stalking, one for obstruction of prosecution, and three misdemeanors for violating a protective order. McDavis, now 32, is represented by veteran defense attorney Shawn Holley, known for high-profile celebrity cases. Neither Holley nor his firm Vedder Price responded to requests for comment. A court hearing is set for September 2, with bail recommended at $550,000.
