Bar Complaint Against E. Jean Carroll's Lawyer Dismissed by New York Grievance Committee

Roberta Kaplan, counsel for E. Jean Carroll, faced a bar complaint alleging she did not promptly correct false testimony about outside funding of Carroll’s defamation suits. The complaint asserted that Kaplan only disclosed, on the eve of trial, that Reid Hoffman's nonprofit, American Future Republic, had contributed $7 million to cover legal expenses. On Monday, the New York State Attorney Grievance Committee issued a letter dismissing the complaint, noting that the issue had been examined by the trial court and was not suitable for re-litigation before the committee.

The NLPC’s counsel, Paul Kamenar, called the brief rejection a sign of bias and announced plans to appeal within two weeks. The committee did not address allegations regarding Kaplan’s fee structure. The case follows Carroll’s recent $5.8 million judgment against Donald Trump.
