Barron Collier football coach Brannon Tidwell arrested on DUI suspicion
Barron Collier High School head football coach Brannon Tidwell was taken into custody on August 1 for alleged driving under the influence and refusing a breath test.
On August 1, Barron Collier High School’s head football coach Brannon Tidwell was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and refusing to undergo a DUI test, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office. He was released on bond later that day, with an arrest report slated for release on Monday and a first court date scheduled for August 26. Tidwell, 48, is a 1996 alumnus of the school and took the head-coach position in February 2025 after serving as director of player personnel and high school relations at Murray State.
Last month the Florida High School one outlet Association suspended him for the 2026-27 season and imposed a $5,000 fine after recruiting violations were. Despite the suspension, school principal Sean Kinsley said Tidwell will remain involved with the program but will not be present at any games until the suspension expires in June 2027.
Why it matters
The arrest adds legal trouble to a coach already penalized for recruiting violations, affecting the football program and community trust.
