Bell officer charged with illegal GPS tracking of ex-girlfriend and DMV data misuse

A Bell police officer, James Ixcoy, was arrested for allegedly placing a GPS tracker on his ex-girlfriend’s car and illegally accessing a DMV database to gather personal information.

Bell police officer James Ixcoy has been arrested on charges that he covertly monitored his ex-girlfriend by installing a GPS tracker on her automobile and by illegally pulling a registration record from the California Department of Motor Vehicles on a former boyfriend. The alleged offenses occurred in July and August of 2025, with the tracking device later recovered by authorities. Ixcoy is charged with one felony count of accessing and using computer data without permission and one misdemeanor count of unlawful use of an electronic tracking device.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman emphasized that exploiting law-enforcement resources for personal reasons could lead to a sentence of up to three years and six months in county jail. The officer is scheduled for arraignment on October 2 at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
