Bernie Sanders denounces Democratic elite as out of touch while defending socialist agenda
Senator Bernie Sanders accused the Democratic establishment of being disconnected from voters and argued that the party should represent working people, not wealthy donors.
During a MeidasTouch interview, Senator Bernie Sanders blasted the Democratic establishment for being “way, way out of touch” with the electorate and for catering to wealthy donors. He suggested the party should transform into a coalition of working-class, young, and minority voters willing to challenge oligarchic power. Sanders highlighted core issues such as education, health care, climate change and AI oversight, calling them ordinary concerns rather than radical ideas.
His comments coincided with recent primary victories by democratic socialists in New York City and state Assembly races in Buffalo and Syracuse. DSA co-chair Megan Romer later affirmed a broad socialist platform in one outlet's interview. President Trump has also criticized the rise of the DSA, praising New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s support for the candidates.
Why it matters
The critique signals growing tension between progressive socialists and the Democratic Party’s traditional donor-driven model.
