Bill Maher claims Democrats are being overtaken by socialist influences
Bill Maher told his HBO audience that the Democratic Party is increasingly dominated by radical socialist ideas and that his vote is undecided.
On Friday night’s Real Time, Bill Maher argued that the Democratic Party is being “colonized” by radical socialist elements, particularly the Democratic Socialists of America. He noted that a recent pledge by Representatives Tom Suozzi and Adam Gray, urging Democrats to affirm capitalist principles, attracted only eight signatures from the party’s 212 members. Maher claimed the growing influence of DSA ideas is turning the party into a “raging fire festival” and warned that candidates opposing police, prisons, or borders are now winning elections.
He reiterated that his vote is “in play,” refusing to support anyone who praises the intifada or glorifies the Cold War’s losing side. Maher concluded by saying he would rather vote for former Alaska governor Sarah Palin than for DSA-aligned Democrats. The Democratic National Committee and the DSA were contacted for comment.
Why it matters
Maher's remarks highlight internal tensions within the Democratic Party that could affect voter alignment in upcoming elections.
