BioNTech appoints former Sobi chief Guido Oelkers as next CEO
BioNTech announced that Guido Oelkers, previously head of Sweden's Sobi, will take over as chief executive, succeeding Ugur Sahin.
The German mRNA vaccine maker named Guido Oelkers, who led the Swedish biotech Sobi, as its incoming chief executive. He will replace co-founder Ugur Sahin, who is leaving to start a new mRNA-focused venture with his wife, chief medical officer Özlem Türeci. Oelkers brings more than three decades of experience in the biopharma sector and will assume the role by February 1, 2027. He pledged to keep BioNTech on a path toward becoming a global firm with several approved medicines by 2030.
