Researchers at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting in Boston presented multispecific antibodies that can target three or more antigens, promising greater tumor specificity, lower side-effects, and resistance mitigation.
Historically, most approved bispecifics function as T-cell engagers, physically bringing T cells into contact with cancer cells, with at least twelve such agents cleared for blood cancers. Scientists now aim to incorporate conditional activation mechanisms that keep the drugs inert until they reach the tumor site. The field’s rapid evolution reflects deeper biological understanding and engineering capability, suggesting a new wave of more precise immunotherapies on the horizon.
