Boca Juniors confirms La Bombonera will hold over 80,000 fans after expansion

Boca Juniors announced that La Bombonera’s capacity will rise from about 57,000 to more than 80,000 seats.

Boca Juniors has officially disclosed that the iconic La Bombonera will increase its capacity from the current 57,000 to over 80,000 seats, according to General Secretary Ricardo Rosica on Radio La Red. The renovation will shift the playing surface four metres toward the adjacent railway tracks, enabling the demolition and reconstruction of the box structure on Del Valle Iberlucea Street. The project adds new seating sections, six levels of luxury boxes, and a fourth tier above both ends of the stadium.

Rosica defended the choice to enlarge the existing arena rather than pursue a new stadium, dismissing proposals that claimed a capacity of up to 150,000 in a location that does not exist. More than 90 construction tasks have already been completed, though some remain underway, and Rosica described the effort as being in its final stretch.

Why it matters

The upgrade will allow Boca Juniors to host larger crowds, boosting match-day revenue and fan experience.
