Body recovered during multi-agency search for missing swimmer at North Wollongong

Around 10:30 am, a call was placed reporting a missing swimmer and found belongings at North Wollongong Beach, one of the few winter-patrolled sites in the city. A large-scale response was launched, drawing NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, Marine Rescue and Surf Life Saving NSW, which deployed rescue boats, jet skis, a UAV drone and a Westpac Lifesaver 21 helicopter from Sydney. The search located a partially submerged body near the rock platform by the Continental Pool, roughly one kilometre south of the beach, and it was retrieved by responders.

While officials have not officially confirmed the identity, they believe the remains are those of a 32-year-old man. Police have appealed for tips via Crime Stoppers, and a coroner’s report will follow. Surf Life Saving NSW’s Illawarra duty officer Anthony Turner noted the swift, multi-agency effort and said conditions were favorable, though the exact circumstances of the death remain under investigation.
