Bournemouth secure Portugal defender Antonio Silva from Benfica for up to £25.7m

Bournemouth have completed the signing of Portugal international centre-back Antonio Silva from Benfica for a fee of £21.4m plus add-ons.

Bournemouth announced the acquisition of Portuguese defender Antonio Silva from Benfica, agreeing to a base fee of £21.4m with a further £4.3m in performance-related add-ons. The 22-year-old centre-back, who has logged 237 appearances for Benfica, is expected to fill the void left by Marcos Senesi's summer exit. Silva has already collected 20 senior caps for Portugal, playing at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, the 2024 European Championship and the 2025 UEFA Nations League, which his nation won.

He has won six trophies with Benfica and was named the best defender in Portugal’s 2022/23 league season. Bournemouth described him as a strong, left-sided defender with a proven winning mentality and European experience, aiming to strengthen their back line for the upcoming campaign.

Why it matters

The transfer gives Bournemouth a young, experienced defender to replace a key departure and could impact their defensive stability.
