Bowen Yang to Star as Mary Todd Lincoln in Broadway’s “Oh, Mary!”

Bowen Yang, a former Saturday Night Live performer, will make his Broadway acting debut by assuming the part of Mary Todd Lincoln in the production “Oh, Mary!” at New York’s historic Lyceum Theatre. He replaces current lead Meg Stalter for a limited engagement running from September 15 through December 6, with understudy Hannah Solow stepping in on September 13. Yang will share the stage with returning actors Phillip James Brannon, Barrett Foa, Bianca Leigh and Tony Macht.

The play, penned by Cole Escola and staged by director Sam Pinkleton, portrays Lincoln as a would-be cabaret singer who favors drinking and resents her presidential husband. The production follows a line of high-profile performers who have played Mary, including Maya Rudolph and Jinkx Monsoon. Yang, also a co-producer of the Broadway show “Titanique,” expressed excitement about joining the “deranged and profound masterpiece.”
