Brazilian Supreme Court Judge Allows Probe into President Lula’s Son

On July 30, Supreme Court Justice Andre Mendonca approved a federal police request to probe Fabio Luis Lula da Silva, known as “Lulinha,” for possibly aiding lobbyist Antonio Carlos Camilo Antunes in influencing the health ministry, specifically regarding a government purchase of a cannabidiol-based medication. The authorization also covers a separate allegation that Lulinha received improper payments linked to irregular deductions from pensions administered by Brazil’s National Social Security Institute, a scheme that also implicated Antunes.

Federal police have not yet formally opened the case, and lawyers for both Fabio Luis and Antunes have not commented. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva previously told media he confronted his son about the pension issue and would let the legal process run its course. This decision follows a police request last week to start the investigation and highlights intensified scrutiny of potential corruption involving the president’s family.
