British couple ends months-long hunger strike while detained in Iran

Craig and Lindsay Foreman, both from East Sussex, were detained in Iran in January 2025 while traveling by motorcycle from Europe to Australia and later sentenced to ten years for alleged espionage. After prison authorities prevented them from speaking with family, they began a hunger strike in May, which lasted 93 days for Craig and 84 days for Lindsay. Their son, Joe Bennett, and four unnamed participants in the UK joined the protest during its last five days, alongside other inmates at Tehran’s Evin jail.

The family reports the couple survived on milk and either honey or salt water, but their current condition is unknown. Recent discussions with Alistair Burt, the UK’s first envoy for complex consular cases, and minister Stephen Doughty were called positive, yet the family urges further diplomatic action. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has been asked for comment.
