British father seeks court permission to travel for son's funeral after hotel tragedy
A lawyer for a British man charged with negligence over his 3-year-old son's fall in Paphos will ask a Cypriot court to lift travel limits so he can attend the funeral in the UK.
During a recent stay in Paphos, a British family experienced the fatal fall of their three-year-old son from a hotel window, leading to the father's arrest on negligence charges. He was released on a 20,000-euro bond, required to surrender his passport, report weekly to police and remain within Cyprus. New counsel Alexandros Alexandrou, who took the case after the previous lawyer withdrew, intends to petition the court next week to temporarily lift these constraints so the father can travel to the United Kingdom for his son's funeral.
The court is expected to issue a decision by August 7, after which the funeral date will be arranged. Should the request be approved, the criminal proceedings are slated to continue in mid-September following the court’s summer break.
