British rowers claim two golds at European Championships in Italy
Lauren Henry and Benjamin Pritchard each defended their European titles, winning gold in the women's single sculls and PR1 men's single sculls in Varese.
The European Rowing Championships in Varese saw Great Britain capture two individual gold medals. Lauren Henry, the 2024 Olympic quadruple sculls champion, took control of the women's single sculls race in the latter stages to retain her European title. In the PR1 men's single sculls, Benjamin Pritchard defended his crown by beating Italy's Giacomo Perini.
The British women's eight, comprising Annie Campbell-Orde, Lauren Irwin, Katherine George, Heidi Long, Megan Slabbert, Amelia Standing, Eve Stewart, Elizabeth Witt and cox Jack Tottem, finished second, 5.43 seconds behind a strong Romanian crew. The day’s successes brought the British medal tally to three golds for the weekend. The event serves as a final test before the World Championships scheduled for late August in the Netherlands, while the men's team is currently training at altitude in Silvretta.
