Broken Lizard returns with Super Troopers 3, a largely unfunny sequel

Broken Lizard’s latest effort, Super Troopers 3, marks the third entry in a series that began a quarter-century ago. Jay Chandrasekhar directs and stars alongside Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske and newcomer Hannah Simone as Sarita. The story follows Farva’s impulsive marriage to Thorny’s sister, prompting Thorny to sabotage the Indian-style ceremony while various side plots involve a retired captain, a jealous ex-girlfriend, and a maple-syrup drug scheme.

The film relies heavily on low-brow jokes about “Dutch ovens,” snake venom, and cultural stereotypes, delivering few genuine laughs. A brief shoot-out climax and a cameo by Brian Cox provide a modest payoff, but overall the sequel struggles to justify its existence beyond loyal fans.
