Bronx man accused of making over 4,500 false 911 calls faces possible charges

Investigators allege that Yuri Kharlamov, a 54-year-old Bronx resident, made 4,543 fraudulent 911 calls to the 46th Precinct from March 9, 2023 through July 18, using three different phone numbers. The calls described fabricated crimes such as kidnappings, assaults, and violent rapes, often laced with racial epithets and false accusations against various groups. Police contend the hoaxes consumed significant officer time, activated emergency lights and sirens, and jeopardized public safety by diverting resources from genuine incidents.

The Bronx District Attorney’s Office has been referred the case, and prosecutors may pursue charges including false reporting, reckless endangerment, aggravated harassment and disorderly conduct. Kharlamov’s prior record includes arrests for an egg-throwing incident at the 46th Precinct and a misdemeanor harassment charge in Manhattan, though many earlier arrests remain sealed.
