Bronx mother and grandmother charged with murder after autistic teen starved to death

Geneva Jarvis, 36, and her mother Denise Jarvis, 62, were arrested on Thursday and charged with murder in the March 19 death of 16-year-old autistic teen Adonis Jarvis. Police were summoned to Lincoln Medical Center’s pediatric department after the boy was found in a state of severe starvation and dehydration, leading the city medical examiner to classify the case as a homicide. Law-enforcement sources indicated the neglect was chronic, though the exact duration is unknown.
Adonis arrived at the hospital with his autistic twin brother, who survived; his present health and whereabouts have not been disclosed. The Jarvis family resided near St. Mary’s Park on East 147th Street in the South Bronx. Both the mother and grandmother are pending arraignment.
