Brookefield completes full acquisition of Oaktree, retaining Inter Milan control

Brookefield Corporation has bought 100% of Oaktree Capital Management, which continues to hold 99.6% of FC Internazionale Milano.

Brookefield Corporation, a Canadian alternative-investment manager, has taken full ownership of Oaktree Capital Management, the U.S. firm that owns FC Internazionale Milano. The deal, which started with Brookefield buying a 61.2% stake in September 2019, culminates in a 100% takeover. Despite the change, Inter will remain 99.6% owned by Oaktree, which will continue as the sole supervisor of the club's activities.

Oaktree manages assets of US$225 million, a fraction of Brookefield's over US$1 trillion under management. Oaktree's founders—Bruce Karsh, Howard Marks and Sheldon Stone—are slated to sit on Brookefield's board of directors. La Gazzetta dello Sport confirmed that the club's operational control will not shift in the short term. The acquisition reflects typical consolidation practices in the alternative-investment sector.

Why it matters

The takeover reshapes the financial backing of Inter Milan while leaving its immediate management unchanged.
