Brooklyn woman found dead after neighbor hears 30 minutes of hammering and a curse

In the early hours of Aug. 1, a Bensonhurst neighbor described hearing about half an hour of steady hammering that began after music stopped around 2 a.m., ending with a shouted “F-k you.” Police entered the apartment at 1644 64th Street and found 40-year-old Erika Miranda-Tlacua deceased, with the city medical examiner later confirming blunt-force trauma as the cause of death. Emergency services pronounced her dead on site, and detectives were observed collecting evidence throughout the morning.

Her cousin Gris Aguirre, residing in Red Bank, N.J., launched a GoFundMe appeal to fund the transport of the body back to San Juan Tejaluca in Puebla, Mexico, which has raised $305 so far. The case has drawn comments from nearby residents and a UPS driver who expressed shock, but no suspect has been identified and the investigation continues.
