Busan Film Festival Names Michelle Yeoh Asian Filmmaker of the Year

The Busan International Film Festival disclosed that Michelle Yeoh will be honored as its Asian Filmmaker of the Year during the opening ceremony on Oct. 6 at the Busan Cinema Center. The award, given each year since 2003, celebrates individuals or groups who have made outstanding contributions to Asian film, a role Yeoh has fulfilled over a forty-year career. In addition to receiving the prize, Yeoh has assembled a three-film program that includes the iPhone-shot short Sandiwara, her Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once, and the 2010 wuxia film Reign of Assassins.

The festival will also screen It’s My Time, her latest Chinese-language feature. The 31st edition of the event runs through Oct. 15, with star Kim Minha serving as the opening host.
