CAF Bank restores online banking after fraud-driven shutdown, warns of possible limits
CAF Bank announced that its internet banking platform is back online following a ten-day outage caused by attempted fraud, but cautioned that service may still be intermittent.
CAF Bank confirmed that its online banking service has been reactivated after more than ten days of downtime triggered by attempted fraud. The bank first identified suspicious activity on a small number of accounts on July 21, enlisted external specialists, and suspended online access on July 22 and July 24 while investigations proceeded. On July 25, a related malicious effort aimed at disabling a few user logins revealed an unknown flaw in how third-party software connects to the portal.
The institution stressed that the underlying core banking system was unaffected, ensuring that customer funds are safe. Nevertheless, it warned that intermittent outages may persist, particularly during off-peak hours, and may require traffic throttling. To compensate customers, CAF Bank will waive its £5 monthly account charge for August and September 2026, and CEO Alison Taylor expressed regret over the inconvenience and pledged continued investigation.
