CAF Bank's online service outage leaves 14,000 charities unable to process payments
A week after halting its internet banking, CAF Bank still cannot give its 14,000 charity clients access, forcing many to scramble for payroll and supplier funds.
One week after disabling its internet banking, CAF Bank still has not set a timetable to bring back online access for its 14,000 charity accounts in the United Kingdom. The bank cited detection of attempted fraud and a previously unknown flaw in the link between its core systems and third-party software as reasons for the precautionary shutdown. Technical staff are collaborating around the clock with suppliers and outside experts to develop a fix, but the bank insists the core banking platform remains unaffected.
CEO Alison Taylor issued an apology, emphasizing the need to ensure the service can be restored safely. Charities, including 21 Together and Safer Communities Alliance, say the outage is jeopardising payroll and supplier payments, eroding trust in the bank. The incident follows a similar platform failure last year that also left customers unable to log in.
