Camels Hump Little League shuts out New Hampshire in regional opener
Camels Hump defeated Portsmouth, New Hampshire 1-0 in the opening game of the New England Little League regional tournament.
Camels Hump, the 10-to-12-year-old Vermont state champion, opened the New England Region Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Mickey Brown delivered a two-hit shutout, striking out seven batters and issuing a single walk over 73 pitches, and finished with a swinging strikeout. The lone run came early when Benji Soltsov was hit by a pitch, Brown doubled, and Soltsov scored on a wild pitch.
New Hampshire starter Bennett Smith kept the game close but could not generate offense. Camels Hump now advances to the winner's bracket semifinals on Monday, with a chance to reach the regional final on Thursday.
