Campbell Thompson rips Bangladesh for 8/25 as XI wins by an innings

A tour match between a Cricket Australia XI and Bangladesh at Marrara Oval ended in a dominant win for the Australian side, who posted 355 after Bangladesh’s first-innings total of 263, which featured a Mehidy Hasan Miraz century at number seven. In the second innings Bangladesh were bowled out for just 54, losing by an innings and 38 runs. Young left-arm fast bowler Campbell Thompson was the standout, finishing with figures of eight wickets for 25 runs, taking two on Friday and six on Saturday, including the final two wickets in consecutive balls.

Opener Tanzid Hasan managed the only double-digit score with 22, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto fell for a duck. Off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli added three wickets, complementing Hasan Mahmud’s four-for-42 in the first innings. The result leaves Bangladesh with a brief preparation window before their first Test in Australia in 23 years, where they will confront Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood.
