Canberra's 1970s Concrete Bus Shelters Join ACT Heritage Register
More than 50 years after their installation, the concrete bus shelters designed by Clem Cummings have been listed on the ACT Heritage Register.
The shelters, erected across Canberra in the mid-1970s, were created by architect Clem Cummings. Approximately 480 of these structures remain throughout the city. The Cummings family put forward the nomination, citing the shelters' historical, design and community value. Heritage officials have now formally added them to the ACT Heritage Register.
Why it matters
The listing safeguards a distinctive piece of Canberra’s architectural history for future generations.
