Cara Gardner Morey Leaves GM Role to Become Head Coach of Vancouver Goldeneyes
Cara Gardner Morey stepped down as general manager of the Vancouver Goldeneyes to assume the team's head-coaching position.
The Professional Women's Hockey League confirmed that Cara Gardner Morey is giving up her general-manager responsibilities with the Vancouver Goldeneyes to take over as head coach. After a year of constructing the expansion team, the 47-year-old felt a stronger pull toward the bench, recalling her 14-season tenure as Princeton's women's head coach. She expressed enthusiasm about leading the squad that includes No. 1 draft pick and U.S. Olympian defender Caroline Harvey.
The Goldeneyes, the league's first club knocked out of playoff contention, recently fired coach Brian Idalski. The PWHL will now commence a search for Gardner Morey's replacement as general manager.
Why it matters
The coaching shift could reshape the Goldeneyes' strategy as they rebuild after a disappointing inaugural season.
