The Warm Home Discount scheme will cut £150 from winter electricity bills for roughly six million qualifying households, provided they receive means-tested benefits like universal credit, housing benefit, income-related ESA or Pension Credit. Suppliers are using customer data as of Sunday 23 August to identify eligible accounts, and the discount is applied automatically only when the beneficiary’s name appears on the bill and the supplier serves more than 1,000 customers.

Those who have recently moved or who use pre-payment meters must verify that the account is registered to them to avoid missing the rebate. Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh called on the public to alert anyone who might qualify and to check their billing details before the deadline. The government also announced that 345,000 low-income households in Scotland will receive the discount automatically, aligning Scottish policy with England and Wales. Prompt verification can also help suppliers arrange repayment plans for customers with energy debt.
