Chhota Rajan sentenced to seven years for forging Indian passport
A special CBI court in Chennai handed gangster Chhota Rajan a seven-year jail term and a fine for obtaining a passport with fake documents.
In a Chennai special CBI court, underworld figure Chhota Rajan received a seven-year prison sentence and a Rs 55,000 penalty for fraudulently acquiring an Indian passport. The conviction covered offences of cheating, forgery, impersonation and knowingly presenting forged documents, after he posed as "Vijaya Kadam" and submitted falsified school transfer certificates, a ration card and a demand draft. The Central Bureau of Investigation had opened the case in March 2002, alleging Rajan used the forged passport as genuine travel document.
Rajan, who was once a close aide of Dawood Ibrahim before becoming his rival, remains incarcerated at Tihar Jail in New Delhi for a separate life-term conviction. The CBI filed the formal chargesheet in January 2004, identifying him as Rajendra alias Nana alias Chhota Rajan, son of Sadashiv from Mumbai.
Why it matters
The ruling adds another conviction to a notorious gangster already serving a life term, highlighting ongoing efforts against organized crime.
